    Hi all,

I am looking for a bit of help. I am looking at getting a SRT-4 in the
    near future.
I have been pouring over articles from the net and car magazines, and
what not. So I know all the printed basics about the car from top speed
to the background of the car.

However I want to ask the owners of the SRT-4's that are out here.
    What is the car like?
What is the best and the worst?
What can I expect to get into if I in fact get this car?
Is it a good car for the city? Highway?
I have seen them at the track (one smoked a Saleen ... bad) so I know
    that they are seriously fast.

But I am wondering most of all what is in it for the daily driver.

    Thanks for your help...

ok, i have a turbo pt cruiser same engine, the car is fast ( so your neon
will be even faster, no exhaust, lighter vehicle, etc...)

the srt-4, is dyno'ing at 220-250hp at the wheels, the pt is 190-200 at the
    wheels.

the pt has some seriuos torq steer.

the srt-4 and pt have a stage 1 kit available from mopar, for an extra 20-30
    hp.

PT has a torque steer issue, mmm ok. I know that my wife is looking at one
of those as well thanks Punch.

Again though, let me ask. What are the opinions of the SRT-4 owners. I know
all the #'s and all of the times and production information. I have test
driven one, but you cannot really get to know a car in that time. Aside from
the feeling that "This is the car for me."
What I really want to know is how is the car after the inital "honeymoon" is
over, what do you owners like the best? What, if anything about the car
makes you want to dump it and *shudder* get a Chevy?

Oh and Punch... you know that you really want that upgrade kit :)

I've experienced torque steer, and as far as I'm concerned the PT Cruiser
has no signifigant torque steer in the regular (non-turbo) automatic version. - RM

    |go rent a neon; remember that the srt-4 has no exhaust so it will be loud on
    |highway drives, the suspension is stiffer so you will feel every bump, and
    |every ricer is going to want to race you.
    |
    |that rear wing is a cop magnet, and they will stop you for no reason, check
    |the car for illegal mods etc...

....and you will have a hard time keeping your foot under control.
That turbo rush is really addictive!

  7. Speaking as someone who doesn't own an SRT-4 but who lives in a
neighborhood and tries to sleep at night and in the early morning: YEAH!

My SRT-4 is not very loud on the highway or around town. It is loudest
at about 3000-3500 RPM decelerating. The pop pop pop exhaust tones are a
little annoying sometimes when I am in a neighborhood at night or early
morning. But I just up shift to make them stop. I think the firmer
suspension is very nice. I have only experienced a really bad ride once,
on an old paved road with lots of spread out washboard type marks. I was
doing 120 mph when came up to a cop sitting in the median on the
freeway. Quickly braking when I seen him I got down to 80 in a 70, and
he didn't even look at me. Most cops I see don't pay too much attention.
There are lots of ricers out there in most areas. Just keep your nose
clean if you see them, they can do nothing then. I have noticed a few
cops flip their radar on at just me driving down the road. As far as the
ricers, I just smoke them and they 99% of the time, they back off.

The key point is that ANY front-drive vehicle with a high power/weight
ratio is going to require you to take a firm grip of the wheel before
you nail it. Its the nature of the beast. Everything from a turbo Omni
to a 300M to Northstar Cadillacs can be quite a handful when you're
    smoking the front Michelins.
