My 01 mini van overheated the other day so after checking the coolant level, I went ahead and changed the thermostat. This did not work. Still blows cold air through the vents and still overheats. Water pump was going to be my next solution, but the pump does not leak coolant through the seal that usually goes. Is this the correct next step or should I check other possible problems first

When the car warms up are the radiator hoses and radiator getting hot ?
Is coolant passing thru the system?

    Tileguy,

What were the specifics when your van overheated (at highway speed, in stop
and go city traffic, at idle in the garage)? Any previous symptoms? Any
recent engine work performed? Was the coolant tested and good to whatever
recent cold temperatures you might have seen? Did you add water to it at
any time? Mileage of the vehicle? What was the result of your checking the
coolant level? When was the coolant last drained, the system flushed

The bottom line is that you do not provide enough information to help you
    remotely diagnose your problem.
