parking brake adjustment on 93 Grand Caravan 3.3 ?

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Bill Christens-Barry, Sep 17, 2003.

  1. I have a 93 Dodge Caravan (3.3L, 150K miles).

The Chilton book doesn't match the parking brake cabling in
my car (under the left side to the left rear and continuing
around the back to the right wheel). I don't see any
adjusting nut at either wheel. There seems to be a black
plastic box stradling the cable under the car several feet
to the front of the left rear wheel. What is this?

Most importantly, where is the parking brake adjustment?

    Thanks.

The park brake is a self adjusting. However, if the rear brakes are out of
adjustment for some reason (normally because the rear shoe self adjusters
get too dry and stiff with brake dust) then the park brake adjuster can not
compensate sufficiently. The rear shoe adjusters also are know to have the
teeth wear down so the adjuster lever can no longer grip and turn them. I
recently replaced the adjusters on my 93 for this very reason.
