This so-called "bionic car" needs to get into production f-a-s-t. At 84
mpg at 56 mph its the best mankind can do. Its a fish-like streamliner
with a 3 cylinder turbo diesel.

As for crashworthiness, emissions, etc. the Government would grant this
vehicle an exemption because its the only car which can extract us from
this permanently ongoing oil crisis, from which there is no solution except
this car. Thank you, Germans, for your superior engineering prowness.

One note on crashworthiness. I would love a Humvee to tool around with
baiting Explorers to go ahead and kiss my rear end as hard as they like,
but this bionic car would be a lot safer than a motorcycle, so a lot of
people would take their chances with it even if it doesn't meet government
crash tests. Given that, I can see the government giving M-B a waiver and
selling them with full disclosure that the car is not as safe as M-B 300D
and getting the buyer to sign a "release" and promising not to resell the
car to private buyer. All resales would be via M-B dealers with a "release
    of liability for deathtraps".
