Help me prepare for the worst

  1. Last night our '02 300M was difficult to start, and when it did start
the Check Engine light was on.

    The error codes were:

    P0340 camshaft position sensor error
    P0335 crankshaft position sensor error

I have an appointment to take the car to the dealer in the morning (have
to leave it all day), and they say that I could be up for $70 diagnosis
work before anything else can be decided.

What is the possible cause, and how much could it end up costing?

  4. In fact it cost me only the $100 deductible on my 7yr/70Kmiles extended
powertrain warranty (for which I had paid nothing -- a freebie to help
them move the '02 models to make way for the '03 models). The camshaft
position sensor had gone bad; what that would have cost to replace
    otherwise I have no idea.
