gas light on 97 cirrus

I have a 97 cirrus with a 2.5 v6 with 77000 miles. I filled up the tank yesterday with 89 octane gas. Today I had to drive about 150 miles round trip for thanksgiving and the gas light came on. It usually only comes on when I need to get gas. I can usually make this trip on a little more than a quarter tank but it took almost 3 quarters of a tank to do today. The car runs fine starts fine and idles fine. Anyone have any thoughts on what this may be?

Fuel Tank sending unit is faulty
