(Car Lust) - My friend drives a big honkin' manly-man's
Chevy Silverado 4x4 truck. He commented that while he was
very happy with his Silverado, he was so incensed with the
federal bailouts of GM and Chrysler that he would never
again buy anything built by (as he called it) "Government
    Motors."

Over the next several months, I heard similar declarations
from a few others I crossed paths with. They were
    absolutely, positively never--never, I say!--going to buy
anything from one of the bailed-out automakers. On the
other hand, I don't recall anyone openly expressing support
for the GM or Chrysler bailouts, or any great desire to get
new wheels from the newly nationalized manufacturers.

I happen to live in one of Ohio's more conservative
counties, so I wasn't surprised to hear people talking like
that. Because my hometown is what it is, politically
speaking, I figured that what I was encountering was not
necessarily a representative sample of opinion across the
    state, or across the country.

Six months later, I'm not so sure it wasn't--and here's
    why...

Many of us will not buy from them, no mater what you call them.
It is because governmetn is no longer listen to the people. They listen
to $5000 politicial contributions, corruption and statism. They sold us
out. About 80% of the population was dead against bailouts. Yet
congress, senate and Obama (democrat super-marxists) decided they know
better and have behind the scenes buddies that want the money.
Think, you are a farmer with no GM products, yet you pay GM, Chrysler
and bankls taxes. And might even get less Social Security as government
adds up the debt. Because this is worst than a simple bailout, it piles
debt with interest on you and your kids for a generation.

Makes you and I slaves to corporate, corruption and governemtn taxation.

    Tax sheeples.
Does not mater how you cook it. Obama and democrats are now
responsibile for the biggest fraud in US taxpayer history. And the
largest increase in debt in one year in the whole world.

And if you don't think it will hurt your wealth in the future, let us
    know how...

I have a 03' Silverado that I will keep on the road as long as I practically
and economically can, but when it comes time for a new truck it will not be
a Guvmet Motos are a Duk-n-Dodge. The only 'American' possibility will be a
Ford, but they will have to compete with the Toyota, Mazda, Honda, etc.
    companies.

For commercial duty trucks (say 3/4 ton and larger) I don't see much
competition from any imports. Especially in the 4x4 versions needed
    for construction, etc.

Imports are primarily consumer in the small(er) truck market. There
are heavy duty imports, but nothing in that mid range.

Fat chance, in 2009 ALL of the foreign manufactures truck sales COMBINED
account for less than 10% of the truck market in the US

I must admit, I am (sadly) amused whenever I come across these
    conversations.

I do not understand the logic that says we spent tax dollars to keep them
afloat (whether you think it was a good idea or bad) so let's not buy their
products, the only possible outcomes of which are that they either need to
take more of our tax dollars to stay afloat or they go under, meaning that
every tax dollar we put in was wasted.

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

What is even funnier about this (again in a sad way) is that the same people
continue to bank with the same institutions, which were the ones that took
the real money and did the real damage.

Not every dollar, pretty close to it though. 6.7 cents return on the
    dollar is a pathetic investment.

GM, GMAC have sucked up about $100 billion total in one form or another
    in the last 2 years.

Government only has about $6.7 billion as what GM officially owes today.

$93.3 billion loss to the taxpayers. Funded by debt so the total cost
is higher as interest is due until it is paid.

Mike can argue if he wants be it $77 or $100 or $120 billion, but in any
case a $6.7 billion repayment is not enought to recover GM foul ups.
    Taxpayer loss is big time.

And that is before we go into colateral issues like Delco... remember
them? Spun off of GM to go bankrupt they too got corporate welfare. We
    can't afford auto any more.

Much of the misapproriated, and even properly appropriated TARP will
_never_ be recovered. Some say most. Obama printed the rest as Washing
DC could not borrow enough to pay it's bills, future inflation is coming.

Debt by DC in America increased almost 20% in 2009 under the democrats
    and Obama.

The debt-corruption spend is bankrupting the US government and the
people. Federal debt is now over $125,000 per worker. The interest
alone guarantees a life long career to be saddled with taxation
servatude. Future bank, GM and GMAC bailouts extra.

Clearly no sustainable. If for nothing else than the average household
income is shrinking in the USA with no end in sight.

In assembly possibly. Foreign parts content is far higher than 10% in
every one I looked at in 2005.
