Anyone with driving lights on their Caravan/Voyager?

I think I've figured out a good Christmas present for my Dad. It's only
three months left now and I hate the rush the last few days before
Christmas when I still haven't bought anything. Anyway, when I was out
driving my Camaro the other night I was impressed, like every fall, with
the driving lights. Remebering from, among other times, a ski trip we
took last winter that the high beams on my parents' '98 Grand Caravan
are mostly a joke. Now, the low beams are pretty good, but the brights
could need an improvement, and fortunately that's easily done.

So, has anyone in this group added a pair of driving lights to their
Caravan or Voyager? The way I see it there are two way to go; either get
something big and only have it mounted during the dark season, or go
small and discreet. Knowing my Dad, he wants something that doesn't look
ugly or is in the way. My first thought was something to mount on the
license plate bracket, but now I think I've found the perfect spot right
next to the fog lights. There are four rectangular holes in the lowest
part of the bumper of which the two outer look big enough to fit the
same driving lights I have, Hella FF 75's. If anyone would like to try
this, please do so and report back to the group if it works. :)

    Thanks,

    Ulf

  2. Your first thought was much better -- those "wing" devices that
incorporate a license plate bracket and mounting spots for two or four
lamps will put the "driving lamps" up where they can do some good (near
headlamp height) and in that location they're less likely to be damaged by
road rocks. "Driving lamps" (auxiliary high beams) are severely limited in
their ability to help when mounted down low near the fogs.

Thanks for your input, but I can't say I care too much for the design of
those lights. I'd rather go with a set of Hella FF 300's, they both look
better and can handle 100w bulbs. However, as I said, I'm very impressed
by the driving lights on my own Camaro, and those are mounted even lower
than they would be on the Caravan. And the difference between properly
mounted driving lights and low mounted driving lights is a lot smaller
than low mounted driving lights and no driving lights at all.
