97 Neon burnt rubber smell.

    My son just got back from a trip and told my that when he filled the gas tank
    and was driving, that he smelled burnt rubber (his description of the smell) for
    about 10 minutes and then the smell went away.

    He said this happened both times he filled the tank.

    Any ideas. I'm stumped.
