Just got a 97 Grand Caravan in pretty good shape, but the following
    needs to be fxed:

    1) Cruise control does not work - it cannot be turned on by "ON/OFF"
button on the steering wheel - no effect.

    2) Front right door power lock doesn't work also - it does not even
    click when switch is operated.

    Any ideas ?

On my 1994, there was a switch at the bottom of the steering column
which was connected to the cruise control system. My cruise control
stopped working, and I just said to heck with it, I did not want to
spend the money to fix it.

THEN, my rear brake lights started staying on all the time - even when
the vehicle was not running and sitting static curbside! I discovered
this when I came out one morning to a very dead battery! :(

I took it to the shop, and this switch was shot - so they replaced it.
As soon as they did, my cruise control started working again! BONUS!
    The switch was cheap!

I believe what was hapeneing was that the switch had shorted, and so
the cruise system was thinking that I had my foot on the brake. Of
course, the cruise control system disengages when you put your foot on
the brake for obvuous safety reasons!

Just a thought. I know 1997 model year is a little different, but the
    fix could be that simple.

As for the door, my guess is a bad solenoid. I had to replace one on
my rear hatch release - again cheap. Less than $50 IIRC.

Is the horn working okay? Is the airbag light on? If the horn is not
working and/or the air bag light is on, it could be a defective *clock
spring* wire connector. This would also prevent the cruise control
    switch from working too.

Horn Ok, airbag light goes on/off when I start the engine, as usual
(I've seen the same behaviour on other caravans)...
