As a recent Chrysler owner, can anyone please confirm whether or not the
ATC intake behind the Chrysler decal in the dash of my '96 Intrepid ES is
supposed to be running (whirring sound) even when car is turned off and
parked up.
Thanks in anticipation,
Pauly.

Are you sure it's not just freon equalizing across the orifice? Does it stop
or run forever?

I think it comes on whenever a door is opened (and possibly stays on
until it times out?). Is that possibly what you're seeing?

Thanks for the info guys. It seems that it isn't running all the time, but
it can be off when I leave the car and on again when I return occassionally
.. So maybe you're correct Bill when you say it comes on when the door is
opened, perhaps I should spend a night in the garage eh to make sure ? I was
just worried about a battery drain is all really. Thanks again guys for the
help.
Pauly.

No,, there is an "aspirator" fan that draws cabin air in and keeps it
moving across the temp sensor. It switches on every time a door is
opened, and remains on for a minute or so after the door is closed even
if the engine isn't started. If the engine is started, it runs
continuously until a few minutes after the engine is shut down and the
doors are again closed.

I don't know if you also saw this recent thread which may add some more
info. on the same subject:

I remembered that thread when I replied to your post earlier, but for
some reason couldn't find it to reference in my post, but a reply
earlier today brought it up again.

Thanks Bill, I went to that thread and it seems that you were right, it does
work with the doors opening. Now that I know I have tried it and all is well
it seems. Thanks again for the help. I appreciate it. I have to add, I do
like this car, I'm very pleased with it.
