i tried to get it off, and almost pulled the part the harness is connected
to off....pushed it back in a little, tried the fan out and it works fine on
all speeds, was gonna leave it like that and see what happens
what is it connected to thru the firewall, i didnt pull it all the way out
but i did notice something that looks like a spring behind it.

Behind - on the back of the unit are just all the resistor coils to apply
correct power for various fan speeds. Sounds like all your coils are intact
(often these burn out -melt after time). You problem is just the known
problem that the connector corrodes. If it keeps messing up, you will need
the kit that comes with the harness connector pigtail. In this case, you
don't need to get the connector off, you just cut the wire harness a few
inches from the connector. You'll see how long the new wires you get are
with the new connector. If it quit already, it will quit again as soon as a
little more corrosion builds up. PS - when you put the new one together -
put lots of dielectric in the connector to prevent future corrosion.
