'95 Intrepid power steering fluid?

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Johnny Lugnuts, Dec 17, 2003.

  1. Greetings everyone!

Can anyone tell me if a 1995 Intrepid 3.3L uses regular power steering
fluid? It doesn't require a special fluid, like Honda or Acura, does it?

    Thanks,

    Johnny

All 1995 Intrepids used a Saginaw (GM) pump, so a standard steering pump
    fluid would work.

All Chrysler power steering units that I'm aware of are Saginaw racks
and pumps. Same power steering fluid as GM, same fluid that's been used
for 30+ years. Transmission fluid is NOT recommended!

I'm not sure how this relates, but if my local dealer is to be believed,
Chrysler dealers will sell you *only* ATF+4 for your power steering
fluid now. They claim that the Chrysler p.s. fluid is not even
available to them any more - that when they order the official Chrysler
p.s. fluid, their source in the Chrysler supply chain automatically
    substitutes ATF+4.
