93 Jeep GC won't start until CHECK ENGINE comes on

    Hey,

    We, and our mechanic are stumped. :)

    My wife's 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee won't start until the CHECK ENGINE light comes
    on. It will turn over fine, but won't start. If we turn the key to the "on"
    position and wait, sometimes almost a minute, the CE light will come on, after
    what sounds like a momentary "grinding" coming from the engine compartment.
    Then, we try and turn it over and it starts fine.

    I already LTG - nothing directly related.

    Suggestions?

    I've done the self-test after we manage to get the car started (always starts
    right up after the first time) and the self-test just said 12 - battery
    disconnected from computer at some point in the last 50 starts. That's it.

    Anyone?
