My '99 300M sometimes doesn't start until I move the gear out of Park into
Neutral or move it back to Park. This has started recently but is now
happening more frequently. It seems to be related to the transmission but
I'm not sure. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas what's causing
    this?
    thanks

It clicks but does not start. I'm thinking now that it may be a starter
problem and moving the gears around is just coincidence. Your thoughts?

Likely a bad lockout switch on tranny. Keeps the thing from being
    started in gear.
Or -- the shift detent is not aligned properly and the switch
thinks that it is not in P or N. If the alignment is out,
verify that the engine/tranny mounts are good.
