2003/2004 Grand Cherokee Reliability?

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Joseph Oberlander, Jul 17, 2003.

  1. Choice is down to three vehicles:

    Pathfinder
    4-Runner
    Grand Cherokee

All other considerations - features, off-road, whatnot - all
are factored in so are moot at this point.

I know that the first two are decently reliable. What about
the Grand Cherokee? I can't seem to locate hard data on reliability
for the last year or so other than everyone seeming to say
"Oh - Jeeps have questionable quality..."(especially all of the
    reviews)

A friend has one with a zillion miles on it and quite old. One
mechanical repair (something like rear differential) and paint is
starting to come off. Looks new inside.

Look up the April issue of Consumer Reports in any library.

the 2003 grands are going to be the best yet esp. since 05 will be a new
    bred
the brake issue is solved in the grands, they could pull the other two
    out of the mud bacwards
i have driven many a 4X4 and the grand is topps to pulling someone out
    of the slop
that commerical were the guy is willed 150 arces of swamp land and
he's all excited about it because he's blasting through the water and
mud is a true senerio.the limiteds seem to be more probmatic than the
    base lardo's are, and the 4.0 is a liltte slow in a grand,but it's a
300k engine taken care of. the 4.7 is a quick and nimble engine and
there is a lot of people hopping them up now with great results.my
advice is find 4 vehicles the exact same that you want and test drive
them all because one will be faster than the rest get that one. it will
be the better one to own
