1997 LHS Alarm and Electrical issues...

The only other thing that comes to mind is that in the later years (not sure
when it started, but perhaps in '96?) was that the headlights were tied into
the wiper system through the BCM. From what I understand was if the wipers
were turned on, the headlights would also come on, no matter if it was dark
or light out. I guess it was one of those safety things where it is assumed
that if the wipers are on, then there must by "bad weather," so naturally
the headlights should be turned on as well...

I don't know much at all about this "feature," so I can't be of much help...

 

I always wished that were true on my cars with auto headlamps. It's the law
in most states now, so that you can be seen better in the rain. I don't
think my 97 has that feature, but it's possible I just never noticed it.

 

I read in another forum that this feature started with the 2nd Gen models in
'98. I guess none of the 1st Gen's were capable, though on a side note, I
wouldn't think that it would be overly difficult to modify the system for
this.

I'd have to check the wiring diagrams and what-not, but I bet that if you
tied the power wire into the headlight relay that is used for the delayed
headlights (same relay is used to flash to headlights when the alarm is
going off,) along with a few diodes for proper power routing, that you could
get just the headlights to turn on when you turned the wipers on... Of
course, a little more research would need to be performed, as I don't know
if the headlights would flash of and on if you had the wipers on
intermittent or not... That would be interesting...
