1993 New Yorker EVIC in a 1994 Caravan

    I am putting a EVIC overhead console from a 1993 New Yorker into my
    1994 Dodge Caravan. However, I have run into a few hiccups.

    First off is I had to redo some of the traces on the main board for
    the EVIC, as an electrolytic filter cap leaked, eating away some of
    the traces. That problem has been solved. All other caps look okay,
    and meter okay.

    This is the big problem. I can put the EVIC in the van, and it will
    power up. It receives data over the CCD Bus, and will show me mileage
    info (miles to empty, MPG instant and average). When you shut the van
    off, the display will stay on for 30 seconds. This is because the CCD
    bus stays active for 30 seconds after the van is shut off and the
    driver's door is closed.

    The pickle, when you go to restart the van, the EVIC will not come
    back on. I can plug my Snap On MT2500 scanner into the van, read the
    CCD bus, and it will see the EVIC head. It can run a short display
    test, and detect button presses of the control buttons. However, the
    display will not "wake up" unless you unplug the EVIC and plug it back
    in. Then the display will work again, until it goes back to sleep.

    There is six wires in the EVIC head. Two grounds (grounded to the
    body). CCD Bus + & - (wired with a twisted pair of wires down to the
    CCD Bus diagnostic port under the dash. A pink wire which powers the
    map lights and EVIC head, and a yellow wire which is supposed to be
    the IOD wire for the clock in the head. Both the pink and yellow are
    wired to a constant hot.

    I also have the Engine node from the donor vehicle. It is installed,
    and wired to the CCD bus, but I have not yet wired it to a keyed hot.
    (I had it wired to a constant hot, but the EVIC head would not shut
    off, likely due to the CCD Bus staying active.)

    So, anyone here want to take a crack at my troubles?

    Hi Homer...

    Can't tell you what your problem is, but I can perhaps give you
    a bit of a start toward it...

    I have a 94 lhs with the overhead, and it extinguishes as soon
    as the ignition turns off. Perhaps they're different, because
    I have a "clock" up there, but it isn't a real time clock... even
    the manual isn't clear about what it's indicating, but I suspect
    it just might be recording time that the ignition is on.

    If I'm guessing right, then I suspect what's happening to you is
    that your "clock" wire should be wired to an "ignition on"
    point, rather than constant hot.

    Not a mechanic, just an old retired electrical guy, so take
    my suggestion with a grain of salt...

    Hi again, Homer...

    Hope you read this before you consider acting on what
    I wrote above, because another issue popped into my
    head that's worth considering. (I did warn everyone that
    I'm not only an old guy, but also a stroke victim, eh? :(

    With mine at least, when the headlights are turned on the
    display intensity dims relative to the position of the
    dash lights illumination. Leaving me to think that the
    "clock" isn't recording ignition switch on time, but perhaps
    actual engine run time, in which case the pink wire may
    be connected instead to the computer.

    In any case it can't be connected to constant 12v.

    Hope someone else can cast more light on this; if not
    I'll be happy to pull mine down and take a look best I
    can see just where the wires go for you.

  4. The pink wire is the feed wire for the maplights. The yellow is the
    IOD (Ignition Off Draw). This wire is what saved the memory for the
    real time clock.

    The clock on this one is a real time clock.It has the time and date.

    I was thinking it is probably recording the Elapsed time which is the
    running time of the vehicle. Mine does that and states in the owners manual
    as well. You can use it to time your trip's as well as just letting it run.

    i knw this thread is old but i am losing hope and patience
    i am wiring in a 93 overhead colsole into a jeep cherokee (looks real
    nice too)
    but i am having trouble wiring this console in
    i have two sets of lights one set is courtesy lights(on w door open)and
    the other set is a map light on when you depress the lamp itself i have
    all of these wired properly but am having trouble finding the constant
    for the unit itself and possibly the ground... i think i have the temp
    sensor wires corect (only because i have them matched color for color)
    but could use any help i can get and this thread is the closest i have
    found to answering any of the questions i have had
    i will give you all my wires and colors with what i have found that
    they do any help on this is appreciated

    \pnk/blu dome -

    /pnk map light +
    \blk map - (may be computer - not sure)

    /blk/blu temp switch
    \pur/grn temp switch
    that leaves 4 wires
    tan
    /pur/brn
    \tan/blk these two are twisted together
    blk/grey
    help please if i have to get the "CCD" bus and make it hot just to use
    the temp i can do that also!
    i already have this thing cut in and would love to be able to use just
    those two functions and the dome,map lights too
