1990 Dodge Caravan Transmission Filter Change

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Gladewater via CarKB.com, Apr 18, 2005.

  1. Is there a way I can use the gasket that comes with my transmission
filter kit and get a good seal. In the past, I would
have to revert back to using RTV because the rubber or cork gaskets
    would always leak.

Get a metal-silicone gasket at the dealer - they work well, are
reusable. They may have to order it.

If you bought an aftermarket filter kit DO NOT use it. If it came from a
chain like pep boyz etc. it's made in china it will degrade and destroy your
trans as what happened to me. Go to the dealer and get an OEM filter and OEM
    steel/silicone gasket.

I don't know if that's always true. I was forced to go to Advance to
get a filter after I pulled the pan and discovered that the dealer sold
me the wrong filter. The one I got from Advance was boxed as an OEM
    brand (Saginaw IIRC).
